CBD for Pets

I think most pet owners would agree with me when I say our pets are like our family. We care for them the way we would for a child, we physically care for them, and we emotionally care too. That’s why its hurts us when we see our pets in pain or discomfort.
CBD has been known to help humans with many different ailments, pain, inflammation, and anxiety. It does this through our endocannabinoid system which plays a major role in pain and inflammation modulation. The thing is all animals have this endocannabinoid system! Which means the same relief us humans get from CBD our pets can too! And it’s not just dogs and cats; horses, guinea pigs, rabbits, and any other pet you may adopt into your family can find relief with CBD. A clinical study done by Frontiers in Veterinary Science showed that with the use of CBD oil, 80% of the dogs studied showed a significant decrease in pain and an increase in mobility.
Not only could CBD helped with your pet’s pain and limited mobility, it could also help with any anxiety or stress your pet may be experiencing. Many dogs (and cats!) will suffer from anxiety from fear (like fireworks), separation anxiety, and age- related anxiety. Not only does this have a negative effect on your dog’s well -being, it could influence yours too. Many dogs who are unable to find comfort when left alone will urinate and defecate in the home, they may destroy your furniture, and annoy your neighbors by barking the whole time you’re gone. Also, as your dog ages and their cognitive function and awareness start to decline, this can lead to confusion and anxiety in your older dog. Anxiety can also lead to dogs being aggressive, making it hard to have them around guests or children. The same goes for an anxious cat.
If you’re thinking you want to try CBD for one of your pets but you’re not sure where to start, well, it’s simple! If you know the basics you can be on your to helping your furry family member! There is a good amount of pet products out there like treats and tinctures, rubs, and salves. The most important thing is to pay attention to the amount of CBD in the product. Once you know that you’ll decide how much of the product to give you pet based on their weight. The recommended dosage is 1-5mg of CBD for every 10 pounds of body weight. Some animals may respond well to a smaller dosage and some may need more. The best way to figure it out is to experiment, start with a lower dose and if you see no results within the first 30-60 min increase the dosage. And just like us humans, on some occasions it may take more than one treatment to see improvement.
At this point you may be wondering what product you should use on your pet, and the answer is: whatever works best for you and your pet! If the product contains the dosage your pet needs the difference in the products is just whatever is most convenient for you and your pet! You can give your pet a treat or two or add a CBD tincture directly to their food or even put it directly in their mouth. The most important thing is your pet is getting their recommended dosage to find the relief you both are wanting!
